Saxophonist – born in Columbus, Ohio. He moved to the west coast after first heading east and played in Los Angeles and in San Francisco. He was an underground musician
In the mid 60’s he worked with organist Jimmy McGriff all over the east coast but then moved to L.A. There are some sideman appearances scattered around but he did work and tour with Ray Charles in the 70’s and early 80’s.
There isn’t much more to say other than Rudolph passed away in early 2000 and there was nothing in the Jazz press about this. We have these two albums on Black Jazz and this one, Rudolph’s first, called “Spring Rain”. All of the compositions (7 of them) are his and his playing is powerful and full of authority that only comes from hard practice, dedication and inspiration.
